Allegation of research misconduct

HAWARI: Jurnal Pendidikan Agama dan Keagamaan Islam, published by the Islamic Religious Education Study Program, Faculty of Islamic Studies, Universitas Singaperbangsa Karawang, Indonesia, is committed to maintaining research integrity, academic honesty, transparency, accountability, and ethical scholarly publishing practices.

All authors, reviewers, editors, and members of the editorial board are expected to uphold the highest standards of research and publication ethics throughout the manuscript submission, peer-review, editorial evaluation, and publication processes.

Research misconduct includes, but is not limited to, fabrication or falsification of research data, plagiarism, duplicate publication, inappropriate manipulation of research findings or images, unethical authorship practices, misrepresentation of research methods, and other actions that violate accepted principles of academic integrity.

1. Reporting Allegations

Any individual who suspects research misconduct in a manuscript submitted to or an article published in HAWARI may report the allegation to the journal's editorial team.

Reports should provide a clear description of the suspected misconduct and, where possible, relevant supporting evidence, documentation, or references.

All allegations will be taken seriously and assessed fairly, confidentially, objectively, and without discrimination.

The journal encourages responsible reporting of potential ethical violations to protect the credibility of scholarly research and the integrity of academic publications.

2. Preliminary Assessment and Investigation

Upon receiving an allegation, the Editor-in-Chief or an authorized editor will conduct a preliminary assessment to determine whether the allegation falls within the journal's editorial responsibility and whether sufficient information is available for further examination.

Where necessary, the journal may request explanations, supporting documents, original research data, ethical approval records, or other relevant information from the author(s).

The journal may also contact the authors' affiliated institutions, research ethics committees, or other competent authorities when further investigation is required.

HAWARI follows the principles and recommended procedures of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) when evaluating allegations of research misconduct.

The journal will not presume that misconduct has occurred before the available evidence has been appropriately examined.

3. Confidentiality and Fair Treatment

All allegations of research misconduct will be handled confidentially to the extent reasonably possible while ensuring a fair and appropriate assessment.

Authors and other individuals concerned will be given a reasonable opportunity to respond to allegations and provide relevant explanations or supporting evidence.

The editorial team will seek to maintain impartiality, protect the integrity of the investigation, and avoid premature conclusions or public statements that could unfairly prejudice the individuals involved.

Information concerning alleged misconduct will be disclosed only when necessary for the investigation, editorial decision-making, or fulfillment of applicable ethical and institutional responsibilities.

4. Editorial Actions

Depending on the nature and severity of the allegation and the evidence available, HAWARI may take one or more of the following editorial actions:

  1. Request clarification, additional information, supporting evidence, or corrections from the author(s).

  2. Temporarily suspend the editorial or peer-review process while the allegation is being assessed.

  3. Reject a manuscript if serious ethical violations are established during the editorial evaluation process.

  4. Publish a correction, expression of concern, or retraction for a published article when justified by the circumstances and available evidence.

  5. Notify the relevant academic institution, research ethics committee, or competent authority when the matter requires a formal investigation beyond the journal's editorial responsibility.

All editorial actions will be proportionate to the findings, consistent with applicable publication ethics principles, and undertaken in accordance with the journal's editorial policies.

5. Institutional Cooperation

If an allegation requires a formal investigation into the conduct of a researcher, HAWARI may refer the matter to the author's affiliated institution or another competent authority.

The journal recognizes that academic and research institutions are generally better positioned to investigate underlying research activities, access original research records, and determine whether institutional or research misconduct has occurred.

HAWARI will consider reliable findings from competent authorities when determining appropriate editorial actions.

Referral to an institution does not prevent the journal from taking necessary measures to protect the integrity, accuracy, and reliability of the published scholarly record.

6. Protection of the Scholarly Record

HAWARI: Jurnal Pendidikan Agama dan Keagamaan Islam is committed to maintaining the accuracy, credibility, and integrity of published scholarly literature in Islamic religious education and Islamic religious studies.

When credible evidence establishes that a published article contains significant errors, unreliable findings, or results from research misconduct, the journal will take appropriate steps to correct the scholarly record.

Corrections, expressions of concern, and retractions will be issued when necessary, accompanied by clear explanations and implemented in accordance with applicable publication ethics guidance.

The primary objectives of HAWARI in handling allegations of research misconduct are to ensure a fair and transparent process, uphold academic and research integrity, protect readers and the scholarly community, and maintain public trust in published research.
